| "Kings around the World kept a close eye on what this new fashion Knighthood was. Then, they became jealous of these Nobles who were surrounded by the better men of the Realm. If a Knight had a name that would resound beyond the King's Realm, along with legends of prowess, tales of unconditional talent for leading men in battle, Kings would suddenly feel interested. Nobles would never refuse their ultimate suzerain such a gift, for if they did, they would lose everything. Some Knights thus left the service of their Lord and became the King's Knights."
- The Wise Words of Merlin; Chapter 9, page 11.
You have been chosen by the King to become a Knight of the Round Table, a limited Brotherhood of Knights. Everyone sits as equals at the Round Table. There is no throne, no jewels, no privilege. Everyone is here for the same cause: to serve Justice. You have to become as invincible as Gawain used to be, as passionate for justice as Perceval used to be, as courteous and tactical as Lancelot used to be, as nimble as the Prince, as grand as the King... Here is what is expected of you:
- You first duty is to bid farewell properly to the Lord / Lady you depended on so far, for you're leaving to enter the King's Private Guard. Arthur himself is your Noble suzerain now.
- Spend a night of prayers at the Temple of the Ages, asking the 5 Gods of the Equilibrium, turn after turn, to grant you with powers. Dwayna offers Knights the sense of Justice, Grenth the right to kill without being a sinner, Melandru resistance to thirst and hunger when they travel, Lyssa an open eye to Illusions and a protection to wandering minds, and Balthazar a strong and precise arm. You might have had a favorite God before. This time has passed, you now depend on the Equilibrium, the Alliance of the 5 Gods.
- You have the duty to make sure our Clerics and Nobles do not get rusty on the field and still follow our martial codes properly. Once a month, organize a mission with them where you lead and they have to follow. Test their worth there and make it challenging. The mission is your choice. It can also be a simple stroll outside in a tough area, in the area you have chosen to be your training field for instance. After the skirmish is done, give them some feedback about what is good and what has to be changed or improved. Make sure next time you meet with them, their mistakes are avoided as best they can. You can test several parties in the same mission if you wish to. Also, report the results to the King after completion of the mission.
- You have new ways to salute as a Round Table Knight, for you now lead the other knights who are not. Please go back to the article intitled "How to act as a vassal / suzerain" to find it out...
- In terms of colors, as the Elite of the King's knights, you shall now display either a full plated White Armor, or include some partial White on you, this is a mark of your Rank. You are a respected White Knight.
- To finish with, Knights of the Round Table follow 10 Commandments without a flaw. Transgressing one of these Commandments means expulsion from the Round Table: (these Commandments are actually true Commandments of Knighthood in the Middle Ages)
1 - Thou shalt believe all that the Clergy teaches and shalt obey all their commandments.
2 - Thou shalt defend the Clergy, that is the Church of the Equilibrium.
3 - Thou shalt respect all weaknesses and shalt constitute thyself the defender of them.
4 - Thou shalt love the country in the which thou wast born and the Order that shelters you.
5 - Thou shalt not recoil before the enemy.
6 - Thou shalt make war against the infidel without cessation and without mercy.
7 - Thou shalt perform scrupulously the feudal duties, if they be not contrary to the laws of the Gods.
8 - Thou shalt never lie, and shalt remain faithful to thy pledged word.
9 - Thou shalt be generous, and give largesse to everyone.
10 - Though shalt be everywhere and always the champion of the Right and the Good against Injustice and Evil. | |
